Dr. Anil Weerasinghe is presently an Assistant Neurosurgeon and a Family Physician. He
graduated with a MD from one of Europe’s prestigious universities, Riga Stradins University –
Medical Academy of Latvia, in the year 2002.
Fallowing his completion of the medical degree, he returned back to his home country and
worked at District General Hospital Matale, and Kantale Base Hospital. He also underwent
training in the field of Anesthesia at the National Hospital Colombo Sri Lanka. Thereafter he
joined Lanka Hospitals Colombo, where he gained experiences working in various departments
such as the department of Health check, Accident & Emergency department. Then to pursue his
currier in Surgery he was appointed as Registrar Surgery Lanka Hospitals where he was exposed
to all fields of Surgical Specialties.
Furthermore, he has obtained experience and training in Cheshire United Kingdom and in Kerry
General Hospital Ireland.
Upon returning from his training in Ireland He joined this new innovative team of
Neurosurgeons where they perform from minimally invasive surgeries to complex surgeries as
Scoliosis corrections to Brain tumors. He was a part of Pioneering Neuro Navigation guided
Minimally Invasive Spinal fusions surgeries in Sri Lanka with Dr Prasanna Gunasena Consultant
Neurosurgeon, from the initiation of designing of instruments to successfully completion of
more than 150 Navigation guided minimally invasive spinal fusion surgeries to date January
Dr. Weerasinghe has Successfully completed the MRCS1 from the Royal College of Surgeons
UK, Cause in Disaster Management and mitigation from the University of Colombo Sri Lanka
and Obtained MCGP from College of General Practitioners of Sri Lanka. Further he completed
an MBA from the University of Bedfordshire (UK).
